Erias Lukwago Taken to Makindye Court Amid Treason Charge Allegations

Lukwago was arrested from his home in Lubaga on Monday morning by armed security personnel and was reportedly held at an undisclosed location until Wednesday, when he was transferred to Kira Road Police Division headquarters.

Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been taken to Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he is expected to be arraigned and formally charged.

Authorities are reportedly preparing to charge Lukwago with treason. His wife, Zawedde Lukwago, accompanied by a team of lawyers led by Medard Lubega Sseggona, arrived at the court to represent him. Several opposition politicians and supporters, including Dr. Lulume Bayiga, former Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, and Wafula Oguttu, also gathered at the court premises in solidarity with the president of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
