Mukono Resident District Commissioner, Hajat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka addressing the elderly people who gathered to pick their Christmas packages donated to them by Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister for Works and Transport.

“It’s now 15 years when elderly people in the two divisions of Mukono Municipality, Goma and Mukono Central Division benefit from this kind of arrangement. Gen. Katumba realized that some elderly people were either abandoned by their children or others lost all of their children and therefore if no one comes to their rescue, they even fail to get what to eat on Christmas,” Were noted.

He said that the minister cautioned them against over-jubilating during Christmas festivities, and in the process get into extremes that may result into hazards like attraction to criminals who may attack and harm them.

A number of beneficiaries hailed Gen. Katumba for standing with them every year, and wished him good health and more prosperity.

The packages were handed to the beneficiaries by the Mukono Resident District Commissioner, Hajat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka who encouraged the elderly to resist temptation by supporters of opposition presidential candidates, stand their ground and cast their votes for President Museveni who she said has shown passion and concern for their welfare for many years.

“It is saddening that youths are misleading you with threats, to make you commit blunders; this is a secret ballot where you will stand alone while casting your vote for Museveni. To avoid undue battles, cast your ballot, go back home and wait for the final verdict,” RDC Ndisaba advised the elderly.

Ndisaba also cautioned them to be on the lookout for sweet coated pledges by opposition politicians who she said are promising to waive taxes, and at the same time pledge to effect pay rise for civil servants, constructed infrastructure and improve service delivery, without clarifying where they will draw the financial resources without taxes.

She also cautioned them against falling for opponents’ promises of appointing their sons and grandchildren into ministerial and other juicy posts, and reminded them that they too have relatives who would be interested in these jobs.
