Following Kyagulanyi’s Monday campaign trail in Mityana, Patrick Onyango said that Police arrested 29 NUP supporters claiming that they disrupted the traffic flow and incited unrest by blocking roads.
Presidential candidate for the National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu ‘Bobi Wine’ has said that on getting into office, he is to begin with withdrawing the UPDF soldiers from the lake and hand it over to wanainchi.
Kyagulanyi has also vowed to scrape the poverty alleviation funds distributed under the Parish Development Model (PDM) arrangement, and divert the funds so saved to making roads and building schools.
Under the PDM, each parish gets sh100m annually, and the president has promised to top up this amount to sh150m to enable civic leaders to benefit from the arrangement.
Kyagulanyi was last week addressing public rallies in Namayingo and Bugiri districts, on his last leg of traversing Busoga region in search for votes to help him get to state house in 2026. He apologized to the people of Bugiri Municipality for having asked them to vote for Asuman Basalirwa who, he added, later betrayed them.
He noted that voters had boycotted Basalirwa and he (Kyagulanyi) pleaded with them to accept him which they did in 2018. “Today he has discarded our directives and does not even obey what I tell him,” he told the voters, who kept hitting back saying Basalirwa is now someone’s broker.
Meanwhile, police have set tough campaign travel restrictions for Kyagulanyi as he begins his Buganda leg of the vote hunting trail. Although he was scheduled to spend Monday 6th October 6, 2025 canvassing for votes in Mityana, security authorities allowed him to use only one route to and from the district.
Mityana Deputy Resident District Commissioner Proscovia Mwanjuzi is said to have communicated to NUP leaders directing that the NUP leader must only use the Kampala-Bujuuko-Kikonge-Zigoti route and branch to Kakindu up to Busuubizi ground. The RDC’s letter to NUP leaders indicated that the routes Kyagulanyi wanted to use were under construction and that the heavy motorcade following him would disrupt work.
It was also stated that his application to use specific roads had arrived long after the district security committee had dispersed. She further stated that they want as much as possible to avoid a situation where people’s business would be disrupted.
However, Mityana Municipal MP Francis Zaake referred to these excuses as lame because he explained, earlier programming with the EC had looked at all these provisions and given Kyagulanyi the go ahead to spend the day in Mityana district.
Following Kyagulanyi’s Monday campaign trail in Mityana, Patrick Onyango said that Police arrested 29 NUP supporters claiming that they disrupted the traffic flow and incited unrest by blocking roads.
“At Bujuuko trading centre along the Mityana highway, a group of NUP supporters gathered, drumming, whistling, and blocking the road, disrupting traffic flow and inciting unrest by blocking roads. Security personnel issued warnings, but the group persisted, leading to the arrest of about 29 suspects who are currently held at Wakiso police division,” Onyango said.
Onyango urged all presidential candidates to comply with traffic regulations, follow approved route plans, and respect the rights of other road users.
