Unidentified thugs suspected to be land grabbers have attacked the home of Florence Nantumbwe, aged 111 years and a resident of Wanjeyo village in Kimenyedde sub-county, Mukono district, beat her up along with five of her grandchildren, set all their property ablaze and knocked down their house with orders to vacate the 6-acre plot of land they are occupying or risk being killed.

Nantumbwe and her grandchildren say the attackers struck at around 3:00am, beat them up and set ablaze property including mattresses, clothing, and other property, before demolishing their house with threats to come back and kill them if they did not vacate.

According to Mzee Nantumbwe, the rogues, in addition to such heinous acts, also cut down their food crops including a banana plantation, cassava and other crops.

“All along they were warning me that they would come back and kill me if I do not vacate their kibanja, but I am ready to die here because with my frail health, I cannot transfer my burden to other people,” she said.

One of the grandchildren who was in tears, said the attackers forcefully open both the front and hind doors, pounced on them and started beating them ruthlessly.

He said one stepped on his neck while others thrashed him mercilessly, all the time asking him to immediately leave the kibanja.

“We raised an alarm which attracted rescuers and it is then that our attackers fled with promises to come back and finish us off unless we left”, the grandchildren said in unison.

Wanjeyo LC I Chairman Ssembatya George William expressed worry that the old woman was already sickly and cannot be transferred to any other place.

Ssembatya said when she wants to answer nature’s call, she manages to get up after soiling the place she is sitting in, and that is the reason she insists she would rather die here than transfer her problems to other people.
