The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has deemed false and baseless the allegations taking rounds on social media that Dr. Kizza Besigye is having health concerns as a result of the prisons authorities setting bed bugs in his room to make him have sleepless nights.

Frank Baine, the spokesperson of the UPS says that the false allegations are being fueled by some opposition leaders and the family of Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye.

“The claim that the facility is infested with bed bugs used as a torture tool against him is grossly false. Also, the assertion that he shares a ward with 15 others and yet in permanent isolation is contradictory. The public is urged to disregard this misinformation and disinformation,” Baines says in a public statement.

He adds; “UPS reaffirms its position as a professional government agency mandated to manage prisoners in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Uganda and Nelson Mandela Rules.”
