Capt. Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda has withdrawn from the race to retain the seat.
This comes after a brief meeting which involved Mukula, his closest rival, David Calvin Echodu and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the party’s National Chairman at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds where the President had gone to preside over the CEC elections.

It is alleged that Capt. Mukula has withdrawn from the race in support of David Calvin Echodu. The race now remains between two competitors, Echodu and Mariam Naigaga.
Mukula is among the NRM leaders who have been complaining about the rampant voter bribery that has marred the NRM delegates conference this time.
