“Without considering anyone’s status, we do in the strongest of terms, condemn the act of mobilizing armed people to storm the police, more over at night! What is expected of police to do in such a situation?”, he inquired.

According to Shakur Lukwago, a blogger, the journalists were wrestled to the ground by policemen while kicking and beating them all over the body with batons until they managed to flee for safety. Lukwago said they lost their phones and cameras in the scuffle.
Trouble began when the NRM registrar for Goma division, Joseph Sulume reported late at the district tally centre following switching off of his mobile phones for hours.

Stephen Nakabaale, the Mukono district NRM registrar, reported the matter to the security and upon arriving at Mukono Community Centre where the official tallying of the elections was conducted, security operatives whisked Sulume away and detained him at Mukono Police station.
Nakabaale alleged that Sulume was expected to have meddled with tally sheets and submitted manipulated declaration of results (DR) forms.
On learning of Sulume’s arrest, Ssenyonga mobilised a strong team of youths who stormed police with the intention of securing his release, which prompted police to react by beating up the attacking force, beginning with their leader Andrew Ssenyonga.

Senyonga collapsed and was rushed to Church of Uganda hospital complaining of acute chest pain, with huge bruises occasioned by blows inflicted on him all over the body. Other assault casualties had bruises on their limbs, face and backs.
Onlookers and victims gave their versions of the incident.
