President Yoweri Museveni has reportedly intervened in the matter involving Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, directing that she should not be prosecuted and that any restrictions on her movement should be lifted.
The development was revealed by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, who said his father had chosen to forgive Among despite what he described as mistakes she may have made.
In a post on X, Muhoozi said: “No. We shall not prosecute AAA. She made mistakes but Mzee has decided to forgive her.”
The statement appeared to indicate that Museveni had personally intervened and instructed Muhoozi to abandon any plans to prosecute the Speaker.
Muhoozi also appeared to suggest that Among had been under house arrest, although he did not provide details about when the restrictions were imposed, who ordered them or the circumstances that led to the reported confinement.
He did not disclose the nature of the mistakes allegedly committed by Among or explain what prompted discussions about her possible prosecution.
