MV Kalangala Vessel Upgraded, Back in Business

The MV Kalangala was purchased in 2006 and was managed by the Ministry of Works until its management was privatized. It came into being as a result of a presidential vow to service islands.

Among the new facilities fitted into the MV Kalangala vessel in its four months of servicing in Tanzania include fire resistant doors and other user parts.

It ceased operation on May 7, 2025 and was taken to Mwanza Southern Port for servicing, and it is now back in service along the Nakiwogo-Lutoboka route, from Entebbe to Ssese islands, Kalangala district.

The ship is due for service whenever it completes 10,000 hours moving, with engines being overhauled and fitted with replaceable parts as adequate.

Its daily programme begins at 8:00am when it sets off from Kalangala and arrives at Nakiwogo in Entebbe at 11:00am, and then sets on its return journey from Entebbe at 2:00pm and arrives at Lutoboka at 5:00pm.
