For the consecutive last three years, Naggalama Secondary School has maintained its standards high when it comes to the Uganda National Examinations Board releasing results both at O and A Level.

From the 2024 released Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) on Friday, Naggalama s.s managed to get three students scoring the maximum 20 points out of the 46 who sat for the exams.

The school headteacher, William Nyanja says despite being in the village without much luxurious facilities like the swimming pools, they put much emphasis on academics and for that reason, parents are coming from towns to entrust him with their children.

“Though we have not stayed in the field for decades like our colleagues, we are writing history and very soon, we shall be making mega celebrations,” Nyanja said.

He made the above remarks during the thanksgiving service held at the school premises located at Bunyiri village in Kyampisi sub-county, Mukono district on Sunday.

Ordinand Eliphaz Kyeyune preaching to the congregation.

The service has been led by an Anglican Church trainee priest, Ordinand Eliphaz Kyeyune who has reminded faithfuls that no matter what challenges they are faced with, they are under obligation to always rejoice, pray continually and give thanks to the Lord the provider of everything.

“Right from Nursery to S.6, the journey is long and certainly, there have been a lot of scary issues and hardships, but the good news is that we got good results and this should be a reason for us to thank God for what has transpired all along,” Kyeyune said.

The school emerged in 46th position countrywide, and three of its 46 candidates passed with 20 points. King’s College Buddo was the overall best performer with 20 learners passing with 20 points, followed by Seeta High School which passed 18 students with 20 points.

Ordinand Kyeyune pointed out that true gratitude has nothing to do with successful circumstances one registers in life, but rather depends on the relationship between a believer and God.

He reminded them to always know that whatever the complexity of the situation they are faced with; with God all things are possible.

The school headmaster, Nyanja, is concerned that the boys’ performance is on a steady decrease, saying that while the best three performers with 20 maximum points were girls, the same situation prevailed the previous year, when again two girls emerged the best performers.

He attributed this to parents whom he said are fond of prematurely sending their sons to jobs like driving, thus shifting the education priority to girl children.

“When girls are reprimanded for doing wrong, they quickly change back to the acceptable ways, while boys are big headed and at most unbending,” he noted.

The chairman of the school governing board, Daniel Basajjassubi thanked the parents of the school for sacrificing their other commitments by attending school meetings in addition to endeavouring to pay school fees despite the biting economic vices.

“Your presence, coupled with the headmaster’s commitment to execute his duties as we direct him, makes the game complete and in the final count, we come out with admirable examination results like is the immediate case,” Basajjassubi said.

The best performing learners, Caroline Nakabiri who offered a HED/ICT combination, and Halima Nanteza who offered MEE/ICT, thanked their parents for foregoing all luxuries and paid their school fees, their teachers for committed counselling and guidance, and the school management who accommodated them despite their irregular school fees payment.

Bunyiri village chairperson, Moses Alio said Naggalama SS has made the area proud for, in addition to academic excellence, a high level of organisation among the learners by not being a nuisance to the communities. Alio was echoed by the village church lay reader, Judith Ninsiima who predicted that with the discipline in the school, it is destined to record even better results in future.
