New Pope Elected: White Smoke Pours Out of the Sistine Chapel

Thousands of Catholics gathered at St. Peters Square in Vatican are filled with joy after seeing the white smoke coming out of the Chimney of the Sistine Chapel, a signal that the new Pope is elected.

The 133 cardinals from around the world elects the new Pope on the second day of the Conclave. The New Pope replaces Pope Francis who died last month.

I announce to you a great joy;
we have a Pope:
The Most Eminent and Most Reverend Lord,
Lord Robert Francis
Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church Prevost
who has taken the name Leo XIV.

Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti announces that the Cardinals have elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who took the name Pope Leo XIV.
