When police visited the factory, they found Oboi there and, guided by the company manager, recovered the remains of the severed arm from the location where it had allegedly been buried.
Police in Kampala have arrested nine people, including the management of a manufacturing factory in Nalukolongo, over allegations surrounding a workplace accident in which a worker lost part of his arm and was allegedly confined at the factory after receiving treatment.
The incident occurred on September 15, 2026, at about 3:00am at GNS Industrial Ltd, a manufacturer of plastic mats located in Nalukolongo Zone, Lubaga Division, Kampala District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the injured worker has been identified as Oboi Ivan, 27, who sustained severe injuries to his arm while operating a machine at the factory.
Owoyesigyire said preliminary investigations indicate that Oboi was initially taken to a clinic for first aid before being transferred to St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, where he received treatment and was discharged after four days.
However, police allege that instead of being allowed to return home or seek further treatment near his relatives, Oboi was taken back to the factory premises.
Police further allege that the company management instructed security guards not to allow him to leave the premises.
The accident was reportedly not brought to the attention of police for about a week. During this period, Oboi allegedly remained at the factory with a fresh wound.
Police also established that the severed part of his arm had allegedly been buried behind the factory premises.

Nine suspects, including the company manager, cashier, head of security, two workers and four Indian nationals, have been arrested to assist with investigations. Police have also recorded statements from other workers.
According to Owoyesigyire, investigations are focusing on the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident, allegations of neglect and the alleged unlawful confinement of the injured worker.
Police are also investigating claims that Oboi was prevented from leaving the factory to access further medical care or return to his relatives.
The case has been registered at Nateete Police Station.
Owoyesigyire said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and any offences that may have been committed.
The suspects will be taken to court upon completion of investigations.
