Businge said the major aim of the training is to develop an action plan to guide women leaders in efforts for achieving digital skills use and social dialogue to ensure decent work in Uganda’s labour market and economy.

The Programmes Officer for the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) Koled Businge has advised women and youth leaders in trade unions to use digital skills in recruitment of workers to join the labour movement, so as to be able to register recognition in their bid for decent work advocacy.

He was facilitating at the NOTU training workshop for women and youth leaders at Garuga Country Resort Entebbe, and noted that the world has turned digital in its operations, hence requiring union leaders to learn and embrace digital skills such as WhatsApp, TikTok, YouTube, Zoom and others, as strategies of recruiting workers in the labor movement.

Businge said, “The labour movement needs more and more workers to join in order to have a bigger voice while advocating for social dialogue and decent jobs but it is hard to reach every worker at the workplace physically, thus necessitating the use of digital applications”.

He added that workers unions depend on members and numbers, and that it is the reason NOTU is training workers in digital systems, on issues concerning social dialogue and negotiations, as well as climate change.
