While telling his story afterwards, Luzige said he must have been targeted because he was putting on a red T-Shirt bearing People Power words and logo. He also had dreadlocks.

On his way back home in Nakifuma, Mukono district at around 6:00pm, Masuudi Luzige said he was stopped by a police patrol which was loaded by police officers who were all armed.
Upon stopping, he said one of the police officers cocked his gun and shot him through the mouth. He fell down and started bleeding furiously! But out of shock, he tried to run for safety, but he was again shot from the back in the chest, and he fell down, furiously bleeding and unconscious.
While telling his story afterwards, Luzige said he must have been targeted because he was putting on a red T-Shirt bearing People Power words and logo. He also had dreadlocks.

Fortunately, Luzige was picked among the dead bodies and delivered to Mulago City Mortuary. Hours later, he gained some consciousness and noticed a mortuary attendant passing, he raised his hand and the attendant noticed he was alive.
They picked him from the mortuary and took him to the main ward for first-aid. He spent several days in ICU and then the general ward.
Luzige is among the many Ugandans who were injured by the security operatives during the November 18, 2020 when riots rocked the country from Kampala to other areas as the protestors demanded the release of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who had been arrested from Luuka district as he was traversing the country for support ahead of the 2021 presidential elections.

According to reports, 54 people were killed as the security operatives struggled to calm down the rioters.
Kyagulanyi speaks out
According to Kyagulanyi, as soon as Luzige got better, senior police officers intimidated him and ordered him not to talk about his story or he would face consequences.
They even attempted to buy his silence with some little money. He however defied them and went to the National Unity Platform (NUP) Headquarters and spoke out about his ordeal.
They started hunting him down to possibly silence him forever. Afraid for his life, Masuudi fled the country with the support of the NUP Party and some comrades in the Diaspora.

“Very pleased to report that after such a long wait, our brother Luzige Masuudi arrived today in the USA where he will be receiving advanced medical treatment for the injuries he sustained after being shot by regime operatives,” he said.
Recently, we facilitated his return to Uganda and embarked – alongside other comrades in the diaspora, on trying to get a visa for him to be able to go for advanced medical treatment abroad. We thank God that he is safely in the US today.
His is a story of betrayal by a country that was meant to protect him. A story of pain, despair, resilience and hope. We shall be praying, and hoping for his full recovery. Very, very grateful to the comrades in the diaspora who are ensuring that he has a very comfortable stay in the US as he undergoes reconstructive surgery and other forms of treatment.
