NUP Halts Campaigns As Military Blocks Kyagulanyi’s Rally in Iganga Municipality
National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has today declared that that due to military and police continued blocking of their campaigns in urban centres, he has been compelled to halt his campaign rally in Iganga Municipality.
Kyagulanyi says he is going to report the security continued harassment to Electoral Commission before the situation eruptions into a serious threat because the military and police teams are ever determined to even shoot, injure or even kill his supporters.
The police have however responded to the allegations from Kyagulanyi saying the confussion in Iganga arose following his denial to follow the security guidelines.
“The National Unity Platform claims that Presidential Candidate, Mr Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been denied the opportunity to campaign in Iganga Municipality today 03rd October, 2025. We wish to clarify that; they were scheduled to hold rallies in both Mayuge and Iganga districts. The rally in Mayuge was successfully held,” the police statement reads.
“On their way to Iganga, candidate Ssentamu and his group were advised to follow the agreed-upon route to Iganga Municipality and specifically to Namungale Grounds. However, they opted to take an alternative route where they encountered our cutoffs. Consequently, they decided to head to Jinja City and cancelled their campaign in Iganga,” police explained further, adding;
“We urge him and his team to adhere to security guidelines to ensure smooth and peaceful campaigns.”
