The Principal of National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been heartbroken while visiting some of the party supporters who were on Monday injured by the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT) and other security agencies on their trail to the rally of Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola.
Kyagulanyi had led the party leaders and supporters to gather support for Nalukoola, who is the party flag bearer for Kawempe North by-election.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday evening, Kyagulanyi has said that some of the injured supporters are admitted whereas others are nursing their wounds and injuries from their homes.

He has therefore warned the responsible officers that they should not forget that one day, there will be accountability for the crimes against humanity.
“We spent part of the day visiting some of our comrades who were terribly injured by JAT and other criminals yesterday. Some of these are in hospitals while others are recovering from their homes. You cannot imagine how these thugs aimed live bullets and rubber bullets at unarmed civilians, and cut some of them using knives and bayonets. We gave them a message of encouragement and assured them that their sacrifices will never be in vain. Surely, there will be accountability for these crimes against humanity, one way or another. Wishing all of them a quick and full recovery!” he said.
Earlier, the Minister of Trade for Industries, David Bahati while addressing parliament on behalf of the government about the mistreatments and violations by JATT and other security agencies in Kawempe North, he denied the latter’s liability about the violations.
Bahati said the actions of individuals britalising citizens aren’t state sanctioned and proposed to have the perpetrators held liable for their actions.
He was speaking in response to several complaints raised by Opposition MPs, protesting the brutality meted on Ugandans and arrests during the Kawempe North by-election campaign trail.
“We stated last week that there is no state sponsored violence in these elections, that the state hasn’t sanctioned this and the people who are doing this harming people in elections should be brought to book. So we are doing what we can as Government to ensure that people enjoy the freedom ushered in by the National Resistance Movement, they elect their leaders in a free environment. We shall continue to guard against this violence so that people can elect their leaders in a free and fair environment,” noted Bahati.
