“Built on a strong foundation of science education, we want to make our campus lively, entertaining and attractive to learners. In addition to our sports complex, we are introducing events like Seeta Fest to enrich campus life,” Mbago said.

Seeta University on Saturday officially inaugurated the first-ever Seeta Fest 2026, a vibrant event blending music, dance, games, and entertainment aimed at showcasing campus life to students and the wider community.

The festival attracted Seeta University students and Senior Six vacationists awaiting their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results, offering them a firsthand experience of university life.

One of the chief organisers, Denis Ssebuufu Zalwango, a Pharmacy student, said the event was organised by a student group known as Engle Eye Talk Show to open up the university to the broader community, including students from other institutions and prospective entrants.

“As organisers, we are happy that we brought together students from Seeta University and others from outside for entertainment and interaction. We believe that work without play makes Jack a dull boy — we do not want to become dull,” Zalwango said.

She added that as one of Uganda’s youngest universities, Seeta University seeks to position itself as a modern institution with fully equipped learning facilities and programs.

“We intended to open our doors to young people who are yet to decide which university to join. We are optimistic that many of them will consider joining us in the coming intakes,” she noted.

The Academic Registrar, Ronald Mbago, described the inaugural festival as a success, highlighting the university’s commitment to offering a holistic student experience.

“Built on a strong foundation of science education, we want to make our campus lively, entertaining and attractive to learners. In addition to our sports complex, we are introducing events like Seeta Fest to enrich campus life,” Mbago said.

He explained that the annual event will serve as a platform to welcome new students, foster teamwork and cohesion between continuing and incoming students, and identify emerging talents.

Guild President Tendo Henry Martin said Seeta Fest is a student-led initiative focused on capacity building and promoting collaboration with other universities.

“We are spreading the importance of collaboration and tapping into opportunities beyond our campus,” he said.

The university’s Prime Minister, Kenneth Mumbere, added that the festival aims to bridge the gap between university students and youth who are yet to join higher institutions of learning.

Mbago also revealed that three weeks ago, the university launched a free short course in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Senior Six vacationists, attracting over 1,000 participants. He said the AI short course is to last for eight weeks, after which the learners will graduate with certificates.

One beneficiary, Joan Sanyu, said the programme had equipped many students — including those without a computer background — with practical digital skills.

“For the three weeks we have been studying AI, we have gained knowledge on how to use computers and smartphones productively, including website creation, online marketing and design,” Sanyu said.

She appealed to the government to incorporate AI studies into the secondary school curriculum and make computers, smartphones and internet services more affordable to young people across the country.

The day’s celebrations culminated in a colourful “Color Fest,” where participants who began the event in white T-shirts ended the day splashed in vibrant colours, before dancing to music spun by popular town DJs and MCs.
