Seeta University Set to Open in August, Enters Link With UK’s Teesside University

Seeta University, slated to officially open in August, has finalized a student-teacher exchange programme with Teesside University in Middlesbrough, UK. The agreement will have the Ugandan students offering three-year programme study in Uganda for two years, and complete the final year in the UK.

The University slated to open in August this year, is to offer bachelor’s degrees and diplomas in pharmacy, law, business management, software engineering, information technology, computer science, education, nursing science, tourism and hospitality management, midwifery science, industrial mathematics, public health, biochemistry industrial science and many other disciplines.

Drawing of the partnership modalities were finalised on Thursday 29th May 2025 at Seeta University’s campus located at Mbalala village in Nama sub-county, Mukono district, with a memorandum to that effect finalised between the university’s council  and Jessica Watson the Deputy Director for International Development at Teesside University.

Watson arrived in the country for a five-day visit to introduce and establish the programme which will see Ugandan students study partly in Uganda and for the last bit of their courses in Teesside University.

Seeta University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor in-charge of Administration and Finance Dr. Maurice B. Tamale said some of the modalities under this arrangement will include, but not be limited to students undertaking online studies initially, and undertaking practical work in the UK.

Explaining the programme further, Dr. Tamale said the exchange programme will give Ugandan students exposure opportunities and hands-on practical skills that will make them employable globally.

Seeta University’s Director for Doctoral Programme in Public Health, Dr. Lawrence Nyanzi hailed the partnership programme as an avenue giving hope for training Ugandan students with international expertise, and in effect making them internationally acceptable and employable.

“Additionally, Uganda’s health workers will have their standards stepped up which will consequently improve health service delivery; a living testimony is the case of Singapore and Malaysia which partnered with Teesside University years ago  and have now rapidly advanced technologically,” Dr. Nyanzi noted.

Ronald Mbago the University Administrator and Academic Registrar allayed fears of Ugandan students feeling too distanced from British study systems, clarifying that from the beginning, they will be given a touch of international technology to help them feel comfortable when they finally travel to the UK.

He said, “Our goal is putting out globally acceptable products that can be easily assimilated in any sector of specialization they may wish to work with both at home and abroad”.

Giving an outline of the partnering programme undertaken by her university, the Deputy Director for International Development of Teesside University Jessica Watson said her university has paid special consideration for practical work, teaching space, and other requirements, noting that students work through a vast programme organised from beginning to end.

Watson said that for the last fifteen years, efforts including provision of state-of-the-art  buildings and facilities to accommodate a big number of students have been made. She also pointed out that modalities for students to pay tuition in instalments in a year have been put in place.
