Six Family Members Remanded for Murdering LC1 Chairman

Owing to the capital nature of their offences, they were not allowed to make any plea before court and were remanded till August 27, 2025.

Ssalongo John Kakyenyere, a 77-year-old man of Wabuloolo village, in Nakonge parish, Wakyato sub-county in Nakaseke district, alongside his five sons have been remanded by Magistrate Grade One Joseph Kwesiga for allegedly conniving to murder the village chairman, Frederick Ssebyala and stealing his bicycle.

Additionally, Kakyenyere is also charged with attempting to kill his son, Deus Mugume using a bow and arrow.

The five sons include Brian Mugwaneza also known as ‘Kibonge’, Ivan Kalinda, 32, a resident of Njungu-Katooma in Kirinda Wakyato, Frank Kalinda, 34, of Kyebando Nsooba in Kawempe, and Moses Rudasingwa, 41.

Prosecutor Patricia Kirya Gonza informed court that investigations are still ongoing, with Kakyenyere facing another charge of attempted murder. Prosecution lawyer, Eric Tumwine applied that the second file also be brought in court on the next day of appearance. They are alleged to have committed the offence on July 14, 2025.

According to evidence, the accused trailed the deceased through Brian Mugwaneza who was paid sh2m for the job. On July 18, 2025, the lifeless body of the chairman was discovered.
