A group of predominantly Indian tourists from Qatar who were on a holiday in Kenya, has been involved in an accident. According to community sources, at least six tourists from south India have been killed in the accident.
It is alleged that the bus had 32 passengers, including 28 tourists of Indian origin, three tour guides, and a driver, who were on their way to spend a night at the Panari Hotel in Nyahururu Town.
However, the identities of the dead are yet to be verified while 27 are injured and admitted in various hospitals in Kenya.
The accident happened on the Ol Joro Orok-Nakuru Highway in Gichaka area, Nyandarua County, Kenyan newspaper ‘Daily Nation’ reported.

The driver lost control of the bus, swerved on the road before hitting a tree on the roadside and rolled, killing the occupants, the report said.
Nyandarua Central Police boss Stella Cherono confirmed that five of the victims died on the spot, while 27 others sustained injuries.
“It was raining when the accident occurred. We had a loud bang and went to see what was happening, and that is when we spotted the bus rolling. Residents and well-wishers moved swiftly to rescue the victims,” the Daily Nation quoted John Mwaura, a resident.

The tourists had left Masai Mara National Park on Monday and where to spend a night at the Panari Hotel, and visit Thompson Falls on Tuesday before proceeding to Nakuru.
The injured victims were taken to Nyahururu Hospital in Laikipia and to JM Memorial Hospital in Ol Kalou town.

In a post on X, the India embassy in Qatar said, “A group of 28 Indians from Qatar were visiting Kenya, where their bus met with an unfortunate road accident yesterday. As per available information, 5 Indian nationals have lost their lives in the accident”.
The embassy also assured that officials from HCI Nairobi were on the ground and extending all help. The statement added that the embassy is also in touch with ICC, ICBF & other community groups in Doha.
“We extend sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have unfortunately passed away” the embassy added.
