“We need to stop politics based on fear and dividing people. The people of Ngariam need leaders who bring them together and give them power, not those who create mistrust,” said Otuko.
Augustine Otuko, a well-known political figure in Ngariam County, has officially picked up nomination forms to run in the coming NRM party primaries.
This sets up another challenge against the current MP and State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang.
After getting the forms, Otuko told the media he is committed to promoting leadership that includes everyone and puts people first in Ngariam. He spoke out against what he called a rise in political fear and actions that divide people, which he blamed on the current MP.
“We need to stop politics based on fear and dividing people. The people of Ngariam need leaders who bring them together and give them power, not those who create mistrust,” said Otuko.
Looking back at the 2021 general elections, Otuko shared concerns about cheating, including vote stealing and bribery. He said these problems made the elections unfair.
He believes that this time, the NRM Secretariat has put in place good systems to stop unfair methods used by what he calls “a group of political cowards.” He added, “Now we have a digital Party Membership and Voter Register, thanks to the great work of the Party Chairman and the National Secretariat. This will surely help make the primaries more open and fair.” Still, he asked the Party Electoral Commission to be strong and careful, especially by watching over local party officials in villages and sub-counties to stop any bad behavior.
Otuko also said the party needs to improve how it runs elections inside the party. This would help people trust the system more. He believes that with better planning, the elections on July 16, 2025, will truly show what the people want.
“I believe the people of Ngariam are ready for a new beginning—one based on unity, service, and respect for democracy. We already saw this in the recent village-level elections, where we had a big win and chased Ogwang and his followers away,” he said.
