Members of St. Joseph Naggalama Old Students Association (SJ NOSA) in Mukono have launched an annual fundraising drive to get tuition for under-privileged students to study at the school.

The old students for St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School Naggalama also launched their Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO).

The event conducted at a dinner held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala was graced by the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Justine Kasule Lumumba who made a personal contribution of sh5m towards the cause.

It was agreed that while the dinner is to be an annual event, members will be required to make stipulated monthly contributions as a way of keeping their SACCO active and financially sound at all times to be able to meet its requirements, and to instill in members the culture of saving.

Lumumba who is also an old student of St. Joseph’s S.S Naggalama, appealed to the old students to endeavour to always grab job opportunities of improving their lifestyles whenever such opportunities offer themselves, and to always come to each other’s assistance.

To achieve reliable and all-round success in whatever they get into, she advised, they should be aggressive, bold and determined in life both at work and in business ventures. She also asked them to cast away any tendencies of shyness and timidity.

SJ NOSA President, Naome Sikhoya hailed the idea of the dinner, saying it is a great opportunity for members to meet, share experience and network for best ways of getting to greater heights in life.

Sikhoya praised the fellow old students for bearing in mind that there are needy Ugandans who aspire to be educated at a good school like St. Joseph’s S.S Naggalama but lack the prerequisites like tuition, adding that making it an annual event for raising money for such students is more welcome.

The headmistress, Agnes Nsubuga thanked the old students for their good spirit, and appealed to them to continue joining hands with the school administration in a bid to keep their flag flying higher and higher.

Nsubuga reported that the school’s signature discipline remains paramount, and urged the old students to keep it up wherever they are.
