The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has urged believers to stop yearning for well-established institutions far away from them instead of contributing to development of those in their localities by taking their children there.
Kazimba explained that if they do not play the leading role in developing their schools, nobody will do it for them and added that this will leave them lagging behind.
“For instance, I studied in Seeta College Mwanyangiri, a school in a remote area in Mukono, but I am the Archbishop”, he said.
The prelate also implored breast feeding mothers to pray to God to bless the milk in their breasts so that the children fed on it grow up into upright, God fearing and clear headed citizens who will be able to fight the evils bedeviling the nation.
This was contained in his homily on Tuesday during a burial service for his neighbour at Nakabago Cell in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality, Florence Nansamba Luwaga, 76, a widow to prominent Mukono educationist and former headteacher for Bishop’s Senior School the late Gaster Nelson Luwaga.
Ms Luwaga died after a relatively long illness and was buried at Nakabago village, Mukono Central Division in Mukono municipality.
Eulogizing the deceased, Kazimba said she was an exemplary wife and mother, an ardent lover of his creator and the church, who was always available whenever called upon to make any contribution to church work.
He was sad to note that marriage break ups are today a very common happening, with wives compromising their marital obligations which he added, has led many men to survive on ‘ki-comando’ (simple bachelors’ meals) as women have no time for preparing meals for them.
Kazimba called on followers to endeavour to live a legacy that will live on even after their departure, and benefit those left behind, and to avoid living a meaningless life.
“Many of us live simply because God created us with no plan to influence society and this falls short of reasons for God’s creation of mankind”, he noted.
The late Florence Nansamba Luwaga went to school at Gayaza Junior School, Kyebambe Girls Schools, Aga Khan Secondary School and Uganda College of Commerce (present day Makerere University Business School MUBS).
She worked as a Secretary for the Treasury Department and at the defunct Bishop Tucker Theological College, present day Uganda Christian University before retirement.
She is survived by children and grandchildren. She is the daughter of an outstanding District Education Officer (DEO) in the post-independence era, the late Tondo Luganda.
