Simultaneously, a hardware store businesswoman only known as Weesi and her neighbor Norah had been forced to sit down. Weesi was cut on the throat while Norah’s fingers were cut.

They were rushed to Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital for treatment immediately after the attackers had left with an unspecified amount of money. The village chairperson, John Mary Mayumba thanked Mukono and Nakisunga police personnel who rushed to the scene on being alerted about the attack.

According to residents, the thugs numbering five had two guns and machetes, and are associated with a gang calling themselves the ‘Abafekenyi’ under the command of a prominent politician who uses them to canvas for votes.

The incident came in the wake of an earlier attack in Bbanda village in Nakisunga sub-county where a resident lost his life at the hands of thugs who waylaid him at around 9:00pm, strangled him and took his mobile phone and money.  And after two weeks, another resident of Bulonda in Ntenjeru-Kisoga Town Council was strangled in his house.

And in a related incident in Nakaseke, the LC I Chairman for Wabuloolo village, Wakyaato parish in Wakyaato sub-county, Fred Sebyaala (63), was murdered shortly after testifying in a court case where a father and his son had a disagreement over a piece of land.

Deus Mugume and his father identified as Kakyenyere took a sh60m bank loan and offered land as security; they are said to have shared the money but on repayment, the father failed to raise money and the son paid for him.

To strike a balance, Mugume took the land and transferred it into his name leading his father Kakyenyere to file a court case accusing his son for allegedly stealing his land. In court, the deceased testified in favour of the son which did not go down well with Kakyenyere. Sebyala further told the court that Mugume had been given the land by his maternal uncle.

This led to escalation of the friction between Kakyenyere and the chairman, and residents widely believe that this could have a bearing in the chairman’s demise.

Police spokesperson for Savannah Region, Sam Twineamazima confirmed the aforesaid and added that investigations are underway. The deceased left behind six widows and over 20 children.
