Naggalama Division Police in Mukono district are holding two suspected bodaboda riders in connection with an alleged aggravated defilement involving two schoolgirls aged 13 and 15.

According to Uganda Police Force, the suspects have been identified as 27-year-old Ali Ssentongo and 25-year-old Shafik Nsubuga.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said Ssentongo had been hired to transport the two students to and from school on a daily basis.

Police allege that on February 24, Ssentongo diverted from the usual route and took the pupils to his home in Kasawo, Mukono District, where the 13-year-old was reportedly assaulted. It is further alleged that he later invited Nsubuga, who then allegedly assaulted the 15-year-old.

Both suspects are currently in custody at Naggalama Police Station as investigations continue.

Police Caution Parents

Kawala urged parents and guardians to exercise greater vigilance when entrusting children to transport providers, particularly private riders hired for school runs.

“Our appeal to parents is to not over-trust strangers with your children. Always keep a keen eye on your children. Let us also mind the bodaboda riders that we use to and from school,” she said.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public with any relevant information to come forward and assist with investigations. Police have also emphasized the importance of closely supervising children’s travel arrangements and promptly reporting any suspicious behavior.

The case remains under active investigation.
