Uganda experienced widespread electricity disruptions on Friday following a nationwide grid outage, according to a notice issued by the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL).

In a public statement, UEDCL said it had been informed by its power supplier, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), of a nationwide grid failure that had affected electricity supply across the country.

The utility company noted that technical teams from UETCL were working to restore power as quickly as possible. However, no immediate cause of the outage or timeline for full restoration was provided.

The outage is expected to affect homes, businesses, and public services in several parts of the country, with consumers urged to remain patient as engineers work to stabilize the national grid.

“We regret the inconvenience caused,” UEDCL said in its statement to customers.

The power distributor also encouraged affected customers to seek updates through its official communication channels and customer care lines as restoration efforts continue.
