Corporal Babirye, who served as a medical nurse at Bombo Barracks, reportedly suffered severe burns in the attack.
Residents of Bombo were left in shock yesterday evening following a tragic incident in which a UPDF officer, Corporal Christine Babirye, was allegedly set ablaze in her home by her lover.
Locals identified the suspect as Dickson Mwesigwa Muganda, Babirye’s husband and a former contestant for the Bombo Central councillor seat on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

Corporal Babirye, who served as a medical nurse at Bombo Barracks, reportedly suffered severe burns in the attack. Eyewitnesses said they broke into the house in an attempt to rescue her and rushed her to hospital, but she died on the way.
By the time of reporting, the whereabouts of Mwesigwa remained unknown, and neither the Police nor the UPDF had issued an official statement regarding the incident, which has claimed the life of a serving security officer.
