The Police in Oyam district have apprehended three women accused of stealing offertory from Anyeke Catholic Parish on Tuesday night.
Police has identified the suspects as Justine Opio, Anna Ojok Apili, and their mother Eunice, residents of Akaidebe cell, Western Ward in Oyam town council, are currently held at Oyam Central Police Station.
The theft was discovered on Wednesday morning by Anyeke Catholic Parish priest Fr. Moses Pascal Omara, who found the church door wide open and several items missing upon arrival to celebrate morning Mass.
Fr. Omara reported that the suspects allegedly broke into the sacristy, taking an unspecified amount of cash accumulated over two months, Holy Communion items such as wine, and other church belongings.
During the investigation, a Police sniffer dog led officers to Justine Opio’s bedroom, where some of the stolen items were allegedly recovered, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Moses Arinda, the OC CID of Oyam district, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
