We Will Not Support Anti-Buganda Politicians, Says Ssekiboobo

The Ssekiboobo (Mengo chief for Kyaggwe) Vincent Matovu Bintubizibu has clarified that Mengo will not support political aspirants known to be blocking Buganda programmes and those neglecting to support the known major issues at the forefront in the struggle to restore the monarchy’s glory.

“We are headed for political campaigns but nobody should invite us to greet people because candidates so and so is around; as leaders we may feel free to attend but not specifically to garner support for anti-Buganda politicians,” the Ssekiboobo asserted.

Matovu was on Thursday meeting Mukono media practitioners in an acquaintance’s meeting with them at his office. This was the first meeting of its nature in the history of Kyaggwe.

He noted that the media handled properly can be a reliable avenue for disseminating information for uplifting the kingdom’s issues, and a dangerous instrument if misused, and he appealed to the media practitioners to avoid falling under the second category for the good of both the Buganda kingdom and themselves.

On the rampant use of derogatory and indecent language by some public informers, Ssekiboobo appealed to journalists to avoid this, and endeavour to apply some sweet coated words if they really must use these words in their news stories.

He also advised them to avoid mixing issues of Mengo, the central government and politics to avoid confusing their clientele, noting that this mistake normally results in portraying issues in a distorted manner. He also appealed to them to avoid making sensational and unresearched news for purposes of attracting clients.

Earlier, Kyaggwe official in charge of information Robert Namugera hailed the media as a formidable force for furthering the work done by the office of the Ssekiboobo, and added that since he assumed office, he has attracted other media houses besides the CBS FM and BBS Terefayina, to interest themselves in undertakings of the county.

Namugera was happy to note that the operations of Mukono media practitioners are not confined to the mainland alone, but extend to as far as Buvuma and Kkoome islands, and prayed that this unity and co-operation lasts much longer for posterity.

At question time, the journalists clarified to the Ssekiboobo that a good story may be classified as bad depending on the perception and told the Mengo official that what basically matters is how factual the story is.

They also expressed dislike for the tendency by some news sources to select which media houses to welcome and which ones to reject, noting that since they come from different media houses with different editorial policies, they have diverse interests.
