As the country is still mourning the 42 people who were on Friday night killed by the suspected Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebels in Kasese district, the business fraternity in Mayuge district has been shocked following the shooting of a prominent businessman.
The deceased is identified as Hajji Hamza Ngobi, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bwondha Trading Centre, Bwondha Town Council, Mayuge district.
The incident was reported to have happened at around 2:00 am on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
Police and the army deployed investigators at the scene of crime to probe circumstances under which the Muslim and well-off businessman was killed.
This incident occurs at a time when the public is raising concerns about gun violence in Uganda. Last month, lawyer Ronnie Mukisa was shot and killed in Kampala, before that, a police man shot and killed a UPDF officer in Mbarara, a day before that, a security guard shot dead himself at Lumumba Avenue in Kampala.
Another incident was a murder by shooting of Col Charles Okello Engola, the former State Minister for Labour, who was killed by his bodyguard, Private Wilson Sabiiti who later gunned himself down.
