Mukono Faithfuls Run to Raise sh6bn for New Cathedral Construction

Christians and friends of Sts. Philip and Andrew’s Cathedral of Mukono Diocese have taken part in a fundraising run to raise money for construction of the new cathedral building projected to cost around sh6bn.

The three-category run comprising of the 10km, 5km and 2km categories attracted prominent figures who are residents and working in Mukono including former Buganda government treasurer Eva Nagawa, Mukono Resident District Commissioner Hajat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka, Samuel Kasasa, the proprietor of Unique Garments, the proprietor of Quality Chemicals Emmanuel Katongole who was the chief runner, AIGP Moses Kafeero of the Police Human Resources Directorate, the Executive Director for Foundation for Human Rights Initiative Dr. Livingsrtone Ssewanyana, NRM mobiliser Jackson Ntwatwa and many others.

The chief runner, Emmanuel Katongole made a sh150m pledge, RDC staked her December salary, while IGP Kafeero contributed sh5m towards the work.

The bishop of Mukono Diocese, Enos kitto Kagodo told Kyaggwe TV that of the required sh6bn, close to sh500m has been realised, including an earlier sh30m contribution by President Museveni. He said the run is going to be an annual event to raise money for construction of the phased work, adding that soon, digging the foundation will begin, and without giving further details, he said that they want the work to be done in record time.

The bishop thanked corporate organisations including Wavah Water, National Water and Sewerage Corporation, and MTN Uganda for their various contributions towards the work.

The RDC Hajat Ndisaba said that being a born of the area, she cannot look on when the work of God is being done, and appealed to other well-wishers to generously contribute and wait for reward from God Himself.

NRM mobiliser Jackson Ntwatwa said that although President Museveni has already made a contribution of sh30m, he will be approached and asked to donate more because more is needed.

He was happy that although Christians in the diocese donated the mandatory sh20k per head, they have not been fatigued and continue to give towards the work of building God’s house.
