Maate through a police statement said that the scene of crime was visited, examined and documented and the body was retrieved from the water and taken to Kanungu Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem examination.
The Police in Kanungu district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified female adult, whose body was found in the Ntungwa river tied with ropes and packed in a sack.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police Region Spokesperson says that on the Saturday August 2, 2025, at around 3:00pm, while young boys were fishing in River Ntungwa, they came across a green sack stuck in water and upon checking, they saw a lifeless person therein.
“They immediately notified the area chairperson Kanabizo cell in Ntungwa parish, Nyamirama sub-county in Kanungu district, who sent his defence by names of David Kasigeire to report to police,” he said.

“The body was still fresh and suspected to have been murdered in the morning and later dumped into the river,” he said.
He appealed to the general public that anyone who has a missing dear one should visit the Kanungu Health Centre IV mortuary so that the body is identified and taken for a decent burial, as inquiries in the matter continue to establish those involved and the motive for which she was killed.
