Fear gripped residents of Kakirago village in Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri district when a FUSO truck rammed into a house killing three people instantly.
The tragic incident is said to have happened on Saturday afternoon along Rukungiri – Kihihi-Kanungu road.
It is alleged that while the FUSO truck registration number UBC 786B carrying cement and iron sheets was heading to Kihihi in Kanungu district from Rukungiri town, it developed a mechanical problem and swerved off the road.
In the process it knocked two children who were walking by the pavement. They are identified as Darius Ahimbisibwe (5), son of Reuben Turyaikayo, a resident of Nyakinengo and Sarah Ainembabazi (8), a daughter to Bernard Mugisha of Kakirago village in Bugangari sub-country.
The truck rolled and rammed into the house adjacent to the road killing Kyoti Karwemera, 60, owner of the house and the two children were walking back home after attending prayers in one of the churches.
Elly Maate, police spokesperson for Kigezi region confirmed the accident saying that bodies of the deceased have been taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre II mortuary for postmortem.
Maate also said that the wreckage of the vehicle has been towed to Rukungiri police station as efforts to have the driver traced and arrested so that he answers the charges accordingly. The case is registered at Rukungiri police station under file number TAR 24/2024.
