Buganda Kingdom is mourning the untimely death of Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala Ndege, the youngest sister of His Majesty the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The news of the Princess’ passing was confirmed by royal sources and the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga on Saturday.

Omumbejja Diana Teyeggala was the daughter of the late Ssekabaka Edward Mutesa II and Katherine Karungu. Born in October 1966, shortly after her father went into exile in England, she was known for her vibrant personality and her deep connection to her cultural roots.

Unlike many who knew her solely for her royal lineage, those close to the Princess describe her as a modern, career-driven woman who balanced contemporary life with her traditional duties as a Nnaalinnya (a high-ranking royal sister responsible for ancestral shrines).

She was specifically tasked with overseeing the rituals and maintenance of the Kagulu Tebuchwereke tombs, an ancient and culturally significant site for the monarchy.

One family member noted, “She was the soul of the family-vibrant, outspoken, and always proud of her heritage. Her loss leaves a void that will be hard to fill.”

The Buganda Kingdom administration is expected to release a detailed funeral program and burial schedule in accordance with royal traditions.
