The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lino Anguzu, has withdrawn trafficking and defilement charges against Kampala socialite Nasser Nduhukire, popularly known as Don Nasser.

Don Nasser had been indicted in 2024 before the International Crimes Division of the High Court on allegations of aggravated trafficking and sexual exploitation of a minor. The case had drawn significant public attention due to the gravity of the charges and the profile of the accused.

During court proceedings on Tuesday, a withdrawal letter dated February 4 and signed by the DPP was presented before Justice Andrew Bashaija. The letter indicated that the prosecution had decided to discontinue the case, stating that it had lost interest in pursuing the matter.

The withdrawal effectively brings the criminal proceedings against the socialite to a halt, unless fresh charges are reinstated in the future. Neither the prosecution nor the defense immediately provided detailed reasons for the decision in open court.

Legal analysts note that under Ugandan law, the DPP has the constitutional mandate to institute, take over, or discontinue criminal proceedings at any stage before judgment, a provision that allows prosecutorial discretion in handling cases.

The development marks a dramatic turn in a case that had been closely followed since the initial indictment in 2024.
