A legal battle has emerged in the High Court after Robert Rukaari petitioned against Christopher Bakashaba, accusing him of forging academic documents to qualify for public office.

Rukaari claims that Bakashaba does not meet the legal requirements to serve as a Member of Parliament under Uganda’s Constitution, the Parliamentary Elections Act, and the Electoral Commission Act.

“I petitioned the court because my brother Bakashaba does not qualify under the laws of Uganda,” Rukaari stated. “He does not qualify to be a Member of Parliament.”

According to the petition, Bakashaba allegedly forged his Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) certificate, claiming he studied at Mushasha Primary School. Rukaari disputes this, asserting that the actual individual who studied Primary Seven at the school under the name Christopher Bakashaba is still alive.

“The real Chris Bakashaba who studied Primary Seven at that school is still alive. Therefore, this is fraud, it is illegal, and it goes against the laws of our country,” he added.

The case, now before the High Court, is expected to examine the authenticity of the academic credentials in question and determine whether Bakashaba legally qualifies to hold public office.

Legal experts say the outcome could have significant implications, particularly on the enforcement of academic qualification requirements for political candidates in Uganda.

Further proceedings are anticipated as the court reviews evidence presented by both parties.
