The Iganga Grade One Magistrate, Ali Tibenkana, has adjourned the high-profile child sacrifice case involving a “witchdoctor” to April 14, after the key suspect was not produced in court.

The case involves 38-year-old Musa Ekye and Rebecca Nambi, residents of Bulanga Town Council in Luuka District, who are accused of murdering five-year-old Sarah Namutebi, daughter of Baker Musota. The matter was scheduled for further mention, but Ekye was absent.

State attorney Arap Malingha informed the court that the suspects had been transferred from Iganga Prison to Kirinya Prison in Jinja and requested an adjournment to ensure the accused are present at the next hearing. Magistrate Tibenkana subsequently deferred the case to April 14.

The tragic incident occurred on January 16, 2026, when police, alongside local residents, arrested the suspects after allegedly discovering crucial evidence in a shrine linked to them. Blood-stained materials were reportedly found, implicating Ekye, Nambi, and others who remain at large.

The father of the deceased, Musota, expressed frustration over the failure of the prison authorities to produce Ekye, raising suspicions about the handling of the case.

“We expect the prison to produce the key suspect at all times during the trial. Authorities and child protection activists must follow up to ensure justice is served,” Musota said.

Relatives including Rose Nairuba and Amina Namutebi, alongside neighbor and key witness Asuman Ndunga, pledged to closely monitor the case.

Ndunga emphasized the need for authorities to maintain vigilance to prevent any mishandling, saying the family is determined to seek justice for their deceased daughter.

The matter remains under judicial consideration, with the next hearing set to determine the further course of the trial.
