“As NRM legislators, we follow the decisions of the party’s Central Executive Committee. It has already endorsed Annet Anita Among for Speaker and Thomas Tayebwa for Deputy Speaker. No one else’s opinion matters,” Nameere said.
Masaka Woman MP Justine Nameere has launched a scathing attack on Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General David Kabanda, accusing him of overstepping his mandate and meddling in the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament.
Through a video clip she posted on her social media handle, Nameere said Kabanda, the Kasambya County MP, is giving himself “undeserved relevance” by using UPDF Commander Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s name as a shield while trying to influence NRM MPs.
“As NRM legislators, we follow the decisions of the party’s Central Executive Committee. It has already endorsed Annet Anita Among for Speaker and Thomas Tayebwa for Deputy Speaker. No one else’s opinion matters,” Nameere said.
She dismissed Kabanda’s attempt to withdraw PLU’s endorsement from Among and Tayebwa, insisting that it was Gen. Muhoozi’s decision and urging MPs to wait for President Museveni’s official endorsement.
Nameere also hit Kabanda with serious allegations, claiming he tried to extort over sh10 billion from Among and has a history of blackmail, including attempts against State House Comptroller Jane Balekye. She also questioned his handling of funds collected during the Gen. MK birthday run, asking: “Where is the list of the poor people he claimed were to benefit from the collections?”
“Stop hiding behind Gen. Muhoozi and stop exploiting people you threaten,” she said.
Kabanda has vowed to respond to Nameere’s accusations on Thursday.
