On Wednesday, Nameere intensified the attacks against Kabanda, accusing him of allegedly using threats and political pressure to solicit money from influential figures while hiding in Gen. Muhoozi’s back.
The Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has defended the movement’s Secretary General and Kasambya County MP, David Kabanda, amid escalating attacks from Masaka District Woman MP-elect Justine Nameere.
Muhoozi, who also serves as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), said those targeting Kabanda are effectively fighting the PLU movement itself.
In a post shared on his official X account, Muhoozi said he personally appointed Kabanda to the position and stood firmly behind the decision.
“I am going to say this once. I am the one who appointed Hon. David Kabanda as General Secretary of PLU. I know why I did that. I have my reasons. Those who fight him are fighting our movement. We will not allow it. They should stop immediately,” Muhoozi posted.

The statement follows controversy surrounding a letter Kabanda wrote in his capacity as PLU Secretary General, withdrawing the movement’s endorsement of Bukedea Woman MP Anita Annet Among for Speaker of the 12th Parliament and Thomas Tayebwa for Deputy Speaker.
Kabanda stated in the letter that he was acting on behalf of Gen. Muhoozi, the chairman of PLU.
The move sparked backlash from Among’s supporters, some of whom accused Kabanda of betrayal despite previously benefiting from his association with the Speaker.
On Wednesday, Nameere intensified the attacks against Kabanda, accusing him of allegedly using threats and political pressure to solicit money from influential figures while hiding in Gen. Muhoozi’s back.
She claimed Kabanda had attempted to pressure Speaker Among in an effort to regain PLU support in exchange for financial benefits.
Nameere further alleged that Kabanda had previously used similar tactics against State House Comptroller Jane Barekye. She also accused him of spearheading a campaign aimed at portraying Among as corrupt in order to weaken her political stance.
According to Nameere, Kabanda expected Among to panic and offer him money to restore the movement’s backing.
In response, Kabanda warned Nameere to prepare declaration forms from all polling stations in Masaka City as she continues her political battle in court against National Unity Platform’s (NUP) candidate Rose Nalubowa.
“As you also prepare your declaration forms from all the polling stations of Masaka City. Justice Teko has already been guided on how to deal with that case,” Kabanda posted on X.
The statement angered Nameere, who fired back by questioning Kabanda over funds allegedly collected from Ugandans for charitable causes.
“Oh, and while you are at it, feel free to explain what happened to the billions Ugandans donated for charity. Some receipts and a spreadsheet of the poor people you supposedly helped would be nice. Also drop the list of your OGs and OBs, Mr. Endorsement,” Nameere posted.
The head of Abavandimwe in Uganda, Frank Gashumba is among several PLU members who have publicly accused Kabanda of targeting fellow movement members for personal interests, deepening divisions within the organisation.
