Lawyers representing Anita Among have claimed that false information is being spread publicly, damaging the image of the Former Speaker of Parliament, the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament, Annet Anita Among both locally and internationally.
Speaking on the matter, one of Among’s lawyers, Fred Mukasa Mbidde, said the legal team is moving quickly to defend their client and protect her reputation. He revealed that they have requested a meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to seek a pardon for Among, arguing that the President has previously forgiven other government officials accused of misusing taxpayers’ money.

Meanwhile, sources close to the matter allege that President Museveni became angered after receiving intelligence reports claiming that Among had allegedly infiltrated sections of the country’s intelligence and security structures. The reports further claim that she had influence over a significant number of District Police Commanders, intelligence officers, and Resident District Commissioners (RDCs).
According to the same sources, Among was allegedly receiving intelligence briefings and issuing directives intended to protect her allies in different parts of the country, especially during election periods.
However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and no official statement has yet been released by State House or security agencies regarding the claims.
Among is under investigation for corruption, illicit enrichment, and money laundering, which has led to raids on her homes and the seizure of luxury vehicles. She was also sanctioned by the US and UK governments.
