Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has claimed that National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been pleading with President Yoweri Museveni to guarantee that he will not be arrested upon his return to Uganda from the United States.
In a post published on X, Gen. Muhoozi alleged that Kyagulanyi has been seeking the President’s intervention as he prepares to return from what he described as a holiday in the US.
“Kabobina has been BEGGING Mzee that we don’t arrest him when he returns from his holiday in the US. I’m now swearing that we shall definitely arrest him,” Muhoozi posted.

Kyagulanyi, who contested in the 2026 presidential election on the NUP ticket, came second to President Museveni according to the official results announced by the Electoral Commission.
Following the election, Kyagulanyi reportedly went into hiding as security agencies intensified efforts to locate him. His supporters have previously alleged that security personnel maintained a heavy presence around his residence in the aftermath of the polls.
After spending several months in hiding, Kyagulanyi is said to have left the country and travelled to the United States without the knowledge of security agencies that had been searching for him.

Gen. Muhoozi’s latest remarks suggest that authorities remain interested in the opposition leader’s return, although no official government statement has been issued regarding any intended arrest.
By press time, neither Kyagulanyi nor the National Unity Platform had publicly responded to the claims made by the Chief of Defence Forces.
The comments are expected to fuel political debate as attention turns to whether the opposition leader will return to Uganda and what actions authorities may take upon his arrival.
