“The Central Executive Committee of the NRM, sitting on Friday at Entebbe State House, designated the NRM and NRM-leaning MPs to the various committees, the committee leadership and to the Parliamentary Commission,” Dombo said in a post on X.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has designated three new backbench Members of Parliament as parliamentary commissioners and appointed former Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa to the party’s highest decision-making organ.

The decisions were reached during a closed-door CEC meeting held at State House in Entebbe on Friday, according to posts by senior NRM officials.

The party designated Susan Jolly Abeja, the Woman MP for Otuke District, Faith Nakut, the Woman MP for Napak District, and Jesica Ababiku, the Woman MP for Adjumani District, as its new parliamentary commissioners.

Parliamentary commissioners form part of Parliament’s administrative leadership and are responsible for overseeing the institution’s governance, the welfare of legislators and staff, and the implementation of parliamentary policies.

The appointments come weeks after the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) named John Baptist Nambeshe, the Manjiya County MP and the party’s Deputy President for Eastern Uganda, as its representative on the Parliamentary Commission on May 28.

NRM Director for Information and Publicity Emmanuel Dombo said the CEC also designated NRM and NRM-leaning legislators to serve on various parliamentary committees and to assume committee leadership positions.

“The Central Executive Committee of the NRM, sitting on Friday at Entebbe State House, designated the NRM and NRM-leaning MPs to the various committees, the committee leadership and to the Parliamentary Commission,” Dombo said in a post on X.

The CEC further directed the NRM Parliamentary Caucus to elect the party’s flag bearers for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on July 5.

The latest decisions are part of the ruling party’s preparations to fill key parliamentary leadership positions and finalize its representation in regional legislative bodies.
