Police have arrested Rose Turindamukama, a woman who had been living with 22-year-old TikToker Jovia Namuwulya, as investigations into the young woman’s murder intensify.
Turindamukama, who was staying with the deceased was reportedly apprehended by police detectives on Monday afternoon after being traced to a house where she had allegedly been hiding since Namuwulya was killed.
According to reports, Turindamukama left the scene after the killing and sought refuge at the residence of a foreign national said to be her boyfriend. The man reportedly sought legal advice before contacting the authorities, leading to her eventual arrest.
A video circulating online shows detectives questioning Turindamukama at the house where she was found.
During questioning, Turindamukama reportedly told detectives that Namuwulya was killed by a man identified as Muhammad. She claimed the two women had met the man only hours before the incident.
Police had not yet issued an official statement confirming the circumstances of her arrest by the time of publication.
Namuwulya was found dead in a pool of blood inside her rented room in Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division, on August 20, 2026.
Police had earlier said Namuwulya had lived with Turindamukama for about four months before the fatal incident.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala previously described Turindamukama as a person of interest after detectives failed to trace her following the discovery of Namuwulya’s body.
The murder came to light after Namuwulya’s relatives became concerned when she stopped responding to their telephone calls. The caretaker and the deceased’s sister later accessed the room after spotting bloodstains through a window.
Namuwulya’s body was subsequently taken to the City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as detectives began piecing together the events surrounding her death.
Investigations are continuing, with police expected to establish the circumstances of the killing and determine the involvement, if any, of the people who were with Namuwulya before her death.
