Msgr Charles Kasibante, the Vicar General Emeritus of the Kampala Archdiocese, has blessed Senior Four and Senior Six candidates at St. Cyprian High School Kyabakadde in Mukono District, calling on them to remain disciplined, prayerful and focused as they prepare for their final Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) papers.

Kasibante gave the blessing during celebrations to mark St. Cyprian Day at the school, where he encouraged the candidates to trust in God, work hard and avoid distractions that could undermine their academic performance.

He urged the candidates to use the remaining time wisely, warning them against examination malpractice and shortcuts as they prepare to sit their final papers.

“Just pray to your God and read your books. Don’t waste time looking for materials which will just ruin your future. Cheating is ungodly, so don’t engage in it. But also, don’t look for any other magic to make you triumph,” Kasibante said.

The celebrations were held under the theme, “Excellence Through Discipline and Diligence.”

Kasibante also called on parents and guardians to provide candidates with a supportive and peaceful environment during the final stage of their preparations.

He urged parents to visit their children in candidate classes and ensure that all school requirements are provided on time so that learners are not distracted from their studies.

“Parents should encourage their children. Do not bring stories from home that will emotionally disturb them at this critical time. Let them concentrate,” he said.

The 2026 UNEB Senior Four examinations are scheduled to run from October 8 to November 3, while the Senior Six examinations will run from November 7 to December 5.

Kasibante encouraged the candidates to embrace group revision, saying studying together would enable them to share knowledge and help one another during the final days of preparation.

He also advised them to balance academic work with co-curricular activities and physical exercise to maintain their health and manage examination pressure.

“Your soul should be kept in a healthy body,” he said.

During the ceremony, Kasibante also confirmed several students into the Catholic faith and urged them to remain committed members of the Church throughout their lives.

The school also celebrated the legacy of its founder, the late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, who established the institution 29 years ago in his home village of Kyabakadde with the aim of improving education standards in the area.

Kasibante praised the late Archbishop’s vision, saying the school had continued to grow and benefit learners from Mukono and other districts long after his death.

“Seeing St Cyprian having improved to this standard even after the Archbishop’s death, we glorify God who enabled him to put up these developments, which have not only benefited children from Kyabakadde but also learners from other districts outside Mukono,” he said.

Archbishop Lwanga died on April 3, 2021, aged 68, when he was the serving Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese.

St. Cyprian High School headteacher Joseph Kamya said the school had registered 292 Senior Four candidates and 154 Senior Six candidates for the 2026 UNEB examinations.

Kamya said the celebrations also highlighted the school’s achievements in academics and sports, the blessing of candidates and the acquisition of a new school bus financed by parents.

The school also rewarded students who excelled in last year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.

Three students who scored 19 points each received sh1 million, while five students who scored 20 points each received sh2 million, together with plaques recognising their outstanding performance.
