NUP Candidate Withdraws Election Petition Against NRM’s Kyampisi Chairman Kakooza

The court subsequently ordered that the election petition be withdrawn and declared Kakooza the duly elected chairperson of Kyampisi Sub-county. 

The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate who challenged the election of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Kakooza Muhammad as Kyampisi Sub-county chairperson in Mukono District has withdrawn the election petition, ending the legal challenge against his victory.

The High Court in Mukono subsequently declared Kakooza the duly elected chairperson of Kyampisi Sub-county following the withdrawal of Election Petition No. 13 of 2026 by NUP’s Mwanjazi Ismael Bright.

The order was issued by Lady Justice Grace Flavia Lamunu on October 6, 2026, after the matter came up for final disposal before the court at 9:30am.

Mwanjazi had filed the petition against Kakooza and the Electoral Commission, challenging the outcome of the Kyampisi Sub-county chairperson election held on February 4, 2026.

According to the court order, lawyers representing the petitioner, Kakooza and the Electoral Commission appeared before Justice Lamunu when the matter was called for final disposal.

The court subsequently ordered that the election petition be withdrawn and declared Kakooza the duly elected chairperson of Kyampisi Sub-county.

The court made no order as to costs, meaning each party will meet its own legal expenses.

The order was signed by Ntalo Nasulu Hussein, Deputy Registrar of the High Court at Mukono.

The withdrawal brings to an end the legal challenge against Kakooza’s election, leaving him to continue serving as the duly recognised chairperson of Kyampisi Sub-county.
