School Canteen Attendant Stones Student to Death, Arrested

The student was given first aid at the school before being rushed to Red Rose Hospital for further medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A school canteen attendant in Kassanda District has been arrested after a student died following a confrontation in which he was allegedly struck on the head by a stone.

The deceased has been identified as Ssemiyingo Ronald, 20, a Senior Three student at Bright Way Secondary School in Kyamasansa Village, Kassanda Sub-county.

According to Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the incident occurred on October 5, 2026, at about 7:00am at the school premises.

Kigozi said the suspect, Namutebi Resty, a canteen attendant at the school, had a confrontation with the student before she allegedly picked up a stone and threw it at him.

The stone reportedly missed its intended target but struck Ssemiyingo on the head, seriously injuring him.

The student was given first aid at the school before being rushed to Red Rose Hospital for further medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police received a formal report about the incident on October 7 at about 1:30am from Emmanuel Luyima, who reported the death of the student.

Following the report, a homicide team from Kassanda District visited the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.

Namutebi was arrested as police opened investigations into the incident.

Kigozi said investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the exact cause of Ssemiyingo’s death.

Further investigations are ongoing.
