Kakooza, who belongs to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), is set to replace National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Jamil Yiga, who has served as Kyampisi sub-county chairperson for the past five years.

Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms on Tuesday disrupted the swearing-in ceremony of Kyampisi sub-county chairperson-elect Meddy Kakooza and his councillors in Mukono District.
The function, which had been organised at the Kyampisi sub-county headquarters, was expected to be presided over by the Mukono Chief Magistrate before it was interrupted by the downpour.
Eyewitnesses said strong winds and heavy rains destroyed tents and scattered chairs, forcing guests to flee for safety. Those affected included the day’s celebrants who are the elected political leaders, civil servants, residents, supporters, and well-wishers who had gathered for the event.

The ceremony temporarily came to a standstill as organisers rushed to mobilise resources to replace the damaged tents and rearrange the venue before proceedings could resume.

Despite the disruption, supporters remained hopeful that the swearing-in ceremony would proceed once conditions improved.
