Uganda’s music fraternity is mourning the death of legendary musician and instrumentalist Moses Matovu, a pioneer and long-serving member of Afrigo Band.
News of Matovu’s death emerged on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with messages of condolence pouring in from members of the public and the entertainment industry.
In a condolence message, mourners described Matovu as a gifted musician who served Uganda through his contribution to the country’s music industry.
“My heartfelt condolences to the household of Moses Matovu, a legendary musician and instrumentalist, a pioneer and member of Afrigo Band who has gone to be with his creator. You served your country well. What a sad year,” the message read.
The message further expressed grief over the loss, saying: “Gutusinze ayi Beene Twakuumye bubi.”
Matovu was associated with Afrigo Band, one of Uganda’s longest-standing and most influential musical groups, where he made a significant contribution as a musician and instrumentalist.
