The England-Born Zimbabwean, Trey Nyoni, played his first game for Liverpool FC’s senior team.
The 16-year-old talented young player made his debut during the FA Cup match against Southampton, coming in for Harvey Elliott in the 77th minute.
Liverpool won the game 3-0. Although Nyoni has played for England at the youth level, he can still choose to represent Zimbabwe in the future.
A talented footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liverpool, Nyoni was born on June 30, 2007, in England.
He started his youth career at Leicester City before moving to Liverpool in 2023. At Leicester City, he played for their Under-18 team at just 15 years old, making a significant impact with two goals in 13 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League during the 2022–23 season. His performance there caught the attention of Liverpool, leading to his transfer.
After joining Liverpool, Nyoni quickly made a name for himself, scoring the winning goal for Liverpool’s Under-18s against Everton. His impressive skills and potential led to him training with Liverpool’s first team under manager Jürgen Klopp. In November 2023, Nyoni made his debut for the Liverpool Under-21 side in the Premier League 2. He was included in a Premier League match day squad for the first time on November 12, 2023, as an unused substitute in a 3–0 home win over Brentford.
Nyoni’s notable milestone came on February 28, 2024, when he made his first-team debut as a substitute in an FA Cup tie against Southampton, helping Liverpool to a 3–0 victory. This appearance made him the youngest player ever to feature in the competition for Liverpool, at the age of 16 years and 243 days.
Internationally, Nyoni is eligible to play for either England or Zimbabwe, thanks to his parentage. He has already made a mark on the international stage, scoring and assisting a goal on his debut for England’s Under-16 team in a match against Italy in August 2022.
