Five people have been charged with 17 different charges related to several attacks carried out to a number of schools by armed assailants.
The suspects have been identified as; Yusuf Babu, Reagan Mawejje, Paul Mayengo and Denis Egesa. They have appeared before His Worship Abubakar Nakibinge of Matugga Magistrate’s Court.
The suspects have been charged with the attack on Nswanjere Junior Seminary where they assaulted Reverend Fathers, and stole a number of property including laptops, mobile phones and a Television Set.
They have also been charged with aggravated robbery, attacks on other education institutions in Mpigi and Wakiso districts between February and April 2023.
The suspects who were taken to court with chains tied on their legs and handcuffs told court that after their arrest they were severely tortured under the confinement of security agencies.
According to Police, the spiralling attacks which happened in Wakiso, Mpigi, Luweero and Mukono districts were orchestrated by a criminal syndicated gang whose members were recently released from prison.
They were however arrested by Police and other security agencies after attacking 11 schools leaving six people including a teacher and security guards dead. Several other victims were injured from the attacks. The magistrate remanded the suspects to Luzira Prison until May 23.
